Bird Lice

What are Bird Lice?
Bird lice (also called bird mites) are tiny parasites that feed on the blood of birds like pigeons, chickens, and doves. When birds nest on a building or enter a roof, these lice can quickly spread into homes, especially once the birds leave or nests are removed.
Why they are a problem
• They cause itchy, irritating bites on humans
• Move rapidly across walls, ceilings, and bedding
• Can lead to sleep disturbance and stress
• Infestations usually grow fast once indoors
Where they hide
Around bird nesting areas, inside roof voids, ceiling spaces, air vents, and can spread into carpets, curtains, and beds while searching for a new host.
Signs of Bird Lice
-Tiny fast-moving specks (grey/black) on walls or surfaces
-Small red or itchy bite marks on skin
-Birds nesting in or on the building
